Song Meaning of “Criminal Element” by Capitalist Casualties
Some of us are living on the outside, trying to survive. We may be part of the criminal element, but it’s not by choice. Some of us have been dealt a life of poverty and hardship, and crime may be seen as the only way to make ends meet. We are just trying to move on but are being judged and trying to escape the cycle, and the guilt that comes with it.
We battle with our conscience each day and though some of us might do wrong, it doesn’t mean that we are bad. We are doing what we can just to get by, caught up in a dangerous cycle with no way out.
The song tells the story of those who are looking for a way out of this world, and more importantly, a way out of themselves. The chorus reminds us that we may be condemned, but that if we believe in ourselves, we can make it out alive.
No matter how hard it gets, we will fight to stay alive and rise above our struggles. We won’t let the criminal element define us, for in the end, we have a chance to turn a new leaf and build lives of purpose and security.
