Song Meaning of “Perversmonger” by Remasculate
“Perversmonger” is a dark and brooding song about the destructive power of lust and its ability to take control of an individual’s life. The song opens with a warning from the narrator; “You will be lost and consumed within the heat of this desire”. The repetition of “heat” creates a feeling of tension and danger, because this is a heavy and lustful kind of heat that can easily take over a person and cause them to lose their way. The narrator goes on to describe the dark and alluring nature of this lustful craving, and its ability to take hold of them so strongly that no amount of struggle or will power can resist.
He then speaks of his own fall to this beastly affliction, noting how he had been “ravaged by the hunger and consumed by the fire”. His own actions have become perverted and he’s been swallowed by a downward spiral of vice and sin. The narrator feels guilty for his own actions and has an internal struggle going on, as he spends every moment of every day trying to fight the feelings of lust that have taken root within him. Despite the fight, it’s a losing battle and he ultimately ends up surrendering to it and allowing it to take him over completely.
The song ends with the narrator accepting his fate and expressing a subdued hope that he’ll eventually find a way out of this dark state of mind, but acknowledging that it might be too late. With a sorrowful tone, he laments his own demise by admitting that “the night may take my soul, should I ever tire of this perversmonger.” His confession paints a vivid picture of a man who is totally and completely consumed by his own lustful desires, and chooses to remain in their imprisonment rather than seeking freedom and redemption. It’s an incredibly powerful song about the fragility and destructive power of lust and its ability to control an individual’s life.
