Song Meaning of “Will by Mouth” by Napalm Death
‘Will By Mouth’ by Napalm Death is an angry tirade about the lack of justice in certain parts of society. The song tells the story of a world where justice is not served and where even the most heinous of acts can go unpunished; a world filled with people who are divided by money, discrimination and fear.
The song begins with the words “Possibly the desperation boils within”. This is suggests that the speaker is becoming increasingly frustrated and disgusted at the lack of justice they are seeing on a daily basis. They feel helpless and overwhelmed by the seemingly unsolvable problem of justice not being served.
The next line “Forgotten rights and a voice unheard” speaks to the feeling of invisibility within this society. The protagonists are oppressed and silenced, unable to fight for justice as their voices are ignored. This is further explored in the line “Bastards whisper corrupt and unheard, to protect their own and ignore deed”. It paints a picture of a world where the corrupt are never held accountable and their wrongdoings are ignored by the powerful and privileged.
The chorus “Will by mouth and never see justice” reflects the lack of hope and faith that the speaker has in the justice system. It is a reflection of the fact that even when justice is sought by demanding it, it often still never arrives.
Finally, the lyrics “But perhaps the confession will be enough” illustrate the speaker’s final hope that by speaking out and sharing their truth, they will be able to find some solace and peace. In the end, the speaker’s only hope is that their voice will eventually be heard, and that justice will be served.
