Song Meaning of “Kickbackistan” by Thermal And A Quarter

“Kickbackistan” tells the story of a place of corrupt power and unjust systems where honesty and hard work are forgotten. The singer expresses his despair at the failed attempts to bring fair practices and justice to the land. He acknowledges the insidiousness of the injustice and corruption, asking “Should I just lie down and ignore the misery / That suffocates our potential?” and pleading “All hail the white of despair / All hail the brave that resist”. His resolve is to keep fighting for what is right in spite of the overwhelming sense of failure that plagues him. He objects to his own complacency, challenging himself to “Throw away the slumber of neutrality… And raise a flag of love”. In the end, he finds hope in a future full of promise that will eventually free them from the tyranny and oppression of kickbackistan. Despite all the despair, the singer declares that he will still be here, singing his song of liberty and strength.
