The song begins with a sentiment of anticipation, as the narrator confidently states “I’m laying out my [plan] saying ‘This is the way we get it done'”. However, as the song progresses the emotions of the narrator become more intense and despairing. The chorus is especially poignant, as it paints a picture of the singer’s raw and egocentric anger at being challenged by the trials of a broken relationship, the narrator proclaims “fuck all of my best laid plans, can’t progress when I’m shaking”.
