Song Meaning of “Control” by Ghostlimb
“Control” by Ghostlimb is a song about coming to terms with the fact that sometimes we can’t control the things that happen in life. In the chorus, the singer laments, “I don’t want it, I don’t need it, I don’t own it, I can’t control it,” as if to say that while we may crave the sense of power associated with control, sometimes we have to accept that we don’t have control over the situations and circumstances in which we find ourselves. The song further emphasizes this point by adding a chorus of “It’s out of my hands, I’m the passenger” later in the song, as if to emphasize that even if we try to take control, there are some situations that are just out of our grasp. By the end of the song, the singer appears to have accepted this fact, turning the chorus around into “I don’t crave it, I don’t want it, I don’t own it, I can’t control it” as if to say that no matter how much he desires the sense of control, he will never get it. This is a song about inner acceptance and coming to terms with the reality of life.
